LA PAZ

Voted by CNN Money Magazine as one of the ten best places in the world to retire, La Paz has no shortage of natural attractions and activities. As the capital of Baja California Sur it is noted for its peace and tranquility; La Paz, after all, means “peace” in Spanish. The city’s Malecon offers the best glimpse into its mellow heartbeat. Locals and tourists enjoy the wide boardwalk, separating the city from the sea, in a variety of ways. Cyclists, rollerbladers, runners, and couples leisurely enjoying the evening’s sunset are just a few staples of the Malecon. The nearby islands of Espiritu Santo and Cerralvo are an ecological wonderland, and scuba diving here is some of the best in the world. Direct international flights to its local airport makes getting there a breeze. There is also a ferry that runs from La Paz to Mazatlan and Topolobampo and it makes a good base for day trips to Cabo Pulmo and Todos Santos. While La Paz can be quiet and peaceful, it is also the commercial hub of Baja, and offers shopping, entertainment, restaurants, bars, clubs, a beautiful new marina, a range of hotels and resorts, and much more.
